Full size Bowl / Halfpipe partially in the Ground

I'm looking for an extensive ramp plan set for a full Bowl with vert on 2 sides.    I have looked on the internet hours at a time for several days now and cannot find anything at all like this.  Really nothing with corner transition details at all.  I guess when you get it perfect it is a valued knowledge.  I dont blame them. lol.     I just dont want to waste too much skatelite on trial cuts that dont fit right.  I am a perfectionist so I would cut tons before I personally got it right.

My alternative is a halfpipe with a spine/rollover split in the middle. That is only if I cannot find the Bowl plans.

Another thing is that I would like to do is stick this thing in the ground about 1/2 way so I dont have annoyed neighbors.     This would also allow our 6' fence to hide most of it from the street.

Anyway if anyone has any help, ideas, or comments, let me know.

Thanks

Sorry don't have to much experience with Bowls. Someone had a link to a bowl in one of the threads. It wasn't any plans but perhaps you could ask them where they got the plans for it. Do a search and you should find it, its an offsite link.

cool, that'll be an ace ramp wotever 1 u make, they both sound cool. i need help with the triangle plys on bowls to, im not building 1, well not this year but if im alloud then next year. anyway all i know about bowls is the frame stuff.

u use 2x6s coase u need to cut the curve into every one of em and the ends have to be cut at an angle. the coping has to have a different curve than the rest of the bowl but im not sure if its tighter or looser.

thats all i know oh and the thrasher how to build skateboard ramps book has a few diagrams of the frames of bowls. hope i helped a little.

Lately I've been building a curved dinnertable, and I got this idea:

cut out the shape you'll want in cardboard 1:1 and put it where you want the finished object to be. That way you can see what to change and how it works.

Now I know that that's got nothing to do with building bowls, but: You could cut out the triangles in cardboard before you cut them in ply/skatelite and see if they fit.

(I havent tried this with bowls or corners, but I figure it would give you some idea of how to cut the ply. I don't know the right shape of those neither.)

YOU WOULD NEED A HELL OF A LOT OF CARDBOARD TO MAKE IT 1:1 RATIO

i mean just the surface of the ramp. The triangular pieces of ply. NOT the entire ramp, dammit.

From everything I have read and heard, building bowls is trial by error.  There is no "system" to it.  But there isn't much out there.  I have the Thrasher Ramp Plans and it's weak... "you need to be able to use a speed square and do compound cuts" are the instructions they give (yeah, no shit, Thrasher!)

I think you just have to give it a shot, and see how it goes.  And be ready to spend lots of money on all the pieces you waste.  At least thats what I plan on doing this summer!

You guys are right.  Trial by error might be the only way to go.  I talked to a contractor that is building houses in my neighborhood.  He said that there is NO way to have a cut list on this.  If you were to have an 1/8th inch mismatch anywere at all on the framing then you would be screwed on precut surface materal.   The only way to do something like this would be to have a huge steel bowl Jig to build the frame around.  That would be retarded so I guess I mill consider a Halfpipe with a partial spine in the center.

Thanks for the help guys.

the best advice i have seen on making bowls is to get your coping bent first then build your trannys to match.  Its much ahrder to bend coping to fit afterwards.  If you take the pipe to a muffler shop or  place that make roll cages or something like that they should be able to bend it to the radius you want.

Then build your trannys to match. Insor is right about the 2X6's each horizontal member needs to be trimmed to match the radius and angled to match the pie slices of tranny.

The best wooden bowls i have skated have corners that are layered like flower petals more than like triangles. And they graduate in several layers with the petal peices more abundant in the lower part of the corners. Go check out the bowled out corners at the closest indooor or ramp park to you and take pictures so you can have something to go by later.
